Biography
Associate Professor Gary Wilson
Gary Wilson graduated as a secondary maths and science teacher in 1971. He returned to university in 1974 and graduated BVSc from the University of Queensland in 1977. In 1994 he was awarded MACVSc by examination in veterinary dentistry and completed his MVSc by thesis titled “Atlas of the radiographic closure of the apices of the teeth of the dog” in 1998. He has been in full-time veterinary dental referral practice since 1994 and was awarded the 2004 College Prize by the Australian College of Veterinary Scientists, the Meritorious Service Award from the Australian Veterinary Association in 2000 and the Equine Veterinarians Australia Peter Irwin Literary Award in 2006.
Gary received his CMAVA (Chartered Member of the Australian Veterinary Association) in 2005. He is the head subject examiner in Equine Dentistry for the Australian College of Veterinary Scientists. Gary has been President of the Brisbane Veterinary Practitioners (1997), President of the Queensland Division of the Australian Veterinary Association (1998) and President of the Australian Veterinary Dental Society (2004 – 2006).
Gary has written two textbooks (Equine Dentistry in 2000 & Feline Dentistry and Oral Cavity Diseases in 2002) as well as a chapter in a third textbook. He has authored over 20 articles in refereed scientific journals and more than 150 conference proceedings. He has presented over 350 postgraduate lectures for veterinarians, veterinary students and veterinary nurses.
